Abstract

The 2020 “Godzilla” Saharan dust plume significantly degraded air quality and impacted atmospheric conditions across the Caribbean, including San Juan, Puerto Rico. By analyzing variations in shortwave and longwave radiation fluxes and aerosol optical properties, this research assessed how the dust plume influenced regional energy balance over San Juan. The results of this study provided insight on dust-induced local aerosol-radiation interactions to improve weather modeling and forecasting.
