Abstract
Circulation of the Fort Pierce Inlet and adjacent portions of the Indian River on Florida's Central East Coast was investigated during a 2 yr period. The currents were predominantly tidally driven, with wind effects becoming more important in the shallower areas of the Indian River and with increasing distance from the Inlet area. Variations in the salinity structure of the waters in the inlet area occur largely with the tidal stage.
