Abstract
This oral history interview features Professor Charles Corman, who was instrumental in establishing the psychology program at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). Recruited in 1977, Dr. Corman describes the challenging process of building the department from the ground up, starting with no faculty and an inherited, problematic graduate program. He details the strategic decision to create a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program, a more clinically focused degree, which was a better fit for the university and its students. Dr. Corman reflects on the leadership of President Jerome Keuper, the early faculty hires who shaped the department, and the significant role Dr. Elizabeth Wolfe played in designing the curriculum and achieving accreditation. He concludes by marveling at the university's growth and expressing his hope that future generations at FIT will appreciate the work of its "pioneers."
