Abstract
Procrastination is a common barrier to productivity, impacting individuals' ability to achieve goals, especially in academic and professional settings. This study investigates a mixed-methods online intervention combining Behavioral Analysis (BA) principles with mindfulness exercises to reduce procrastination. The aim was to develop a human-centered, personalized intervention that utilizes behavioral reminders and mindfulness techniques to address procrastination in 43 participants. Participants' procrastination levels were assessed using the Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS), and interventions were tailored based on individual procrastination tendencies. Reminders were sent via email or text, with timing adjusted to participants’ specific needs. The intervention also included mindfulness exercises designed to promote task engagement and reduce avoidance behaviors. Results showed that participants receiving text reminders, aligned with their procrastination index, demonstrated the most significant reduction in procrastination and improved task completion rates. Mindfulness activities further supported these outcomes, helping participants stay engaged with tasks. These findings suggest that a combination of personalized behavioral reminders and mindfulness techniques can effectively reduce procrastination. The results of this study inform the development of a scalable, compact online solution designed to address procrastination. The proposed solution integrates behavioral analysis and mindfulness, offering a flexible and accessible approach to tackling procrastination. This research contributes to the field by highlighting the potential of mixed-methods interventions in reducing procrastination and improving productivity.
