Abstract

This remote study conducted via Discord© evaluated the effects of the pyramidal teach-back training on feedback reception with Esports athletes. Participants were exposed to hypothetical scenarios of common feedback athletes receive that were made in collaboration with Esports subject matter experts and then were asked to respond to the hypothetical feedback provided. The research team first trained varsity-level athletes (Tier 1), who then trained junior varsity-level athletes (Tier 2), who then trained more Junior varsity-level athletes (Tier 3). The evaluation also consisted of assessing the generalization of the skill taught from an Esports context to a professional context as well as maintenance probes conducted at least two weeks after mastery was reached. Results showed all participants were able to learn feedback reception, but all required additional intervention components to added reach the high mastery criterion of 100% accuracy across two consecutive sessions. Findings also indicated high social validity throughout the entire study, procedural integrity, and interobserver agreement. The study extends the literature on remote pyramidal training, Teach-back and the development of 21st-century skills in Esports.
